There has been limited report on the phytochemical content of cassia Vera bark extract, and its potency as antihyperchdesterolemic in rabbit is nd known yet The d,#x-tties of this reseamh was to determine the phytochemical confent and patency of anti-hypercholesterdemic of cassia Vera bak extrad using rabbit as the animal model. The research was devided into three stages, namely: (I) p m ' n g cassia vem extredr'on wiih ethanol 96%; (2) analyzing phytocMica1 contents of cassia Vera bark extrad; (3) in vivo expenlnent, where twenty N&v Zealand mite rabbits aged 5 months m used. Experimental rabbits were divided into 5 groups. The mbbits nee fed with athemgenic cholesterd (0.1%) as positive confd, RBll standard feed as negative control, w cassia Vera extracts (100 tng'kdday w 200 mglkgday) of fenofibral(75 mglday) togefher with the atherogenic feed for 12 m k s . Levels of s e w tdal cholesterd, t-, HHDLchokfed and LDLchalesterol were determined at 0, 4, 8, and 12 week. At the end of the experiment formafion d fat& k'ver wm &wed. The lasuBs showed that the ethand extract of cassia Vera bark contains tdal phenol (62.25%), flm, frifqmid, saponin and a l k M On the &her hand, cask vcm bark extract was able to decrease tdal serum cholesterd ftwn 443.3 @dl to 739.1 mg/di, UX choiesterd h 286.5 ms/d to 95.8 mgdl and trigljwide from 722.2 @dl to 61.2 rng/dl. Meanruhile, it i t e d HDL serum c M e r o l h m 29.1 W d I to 50.0 ms/dI in mbb~?. It was also shown that the extrad was able to decrease the everage fat glob& on liver significady from 27.47 globule to 3.59 globule per field view. Cassia vera bark extract with phytrxhmicd content was found to be potential as anti-hypercholesterdemic and also in preventing fatty liver formatonr in mbbt
