dc.description.abstractThe national development programme for intermediate I term is to extend life ecpectancy from 66.2 to 70.6 years, to reduce infant mortality from 38 per 1000 birth to 28 per 1000 ! birth, to reduce mothers mortality from 307 per 100,000 birth to 226 per 100,000 birth and to reduce prevalence of i malnourished children under five (WlA c - 2 SD) from 28% to 20%. Same of the nutrition problems in Indonesia are protein energy deficiency, iron-deficient, Vitamine A deficiency, iodium deficiency disorders and zinc ond other deficiency, whereas overnutrition are overweight (BMI >27kglmz) and obesity (EM1 >30 kg1 mZ). Zn deficiency in lndonesio is such an essential issue to be aware of. Researches carried out in Bogor, NTB and Central Javo in 2001 showed that Zn deficiency on infonts was as much as 6 - 78%, while the 2002 reseorch in Bogar and 1997 research in NTT that was conducted on pregnant women indicated that Zn deficiency I had occured os much as 25% and 72%. In an effort to cape with Zn deficiency, the Department of Health has performed nutrition education (tutoring, promotion, councelling), food i diversification of an animal, food fortification (flour), I micronutrient supplementation (vulnerable group). The torgets in the community improvement programs are pregnant women, parturition, lactating mothers, infants, children under fives, school-oged children, fertile women and the elderly.id
