Stability analyses for yield across environment were conducted for a set ofrice (Oryza sativa L.) varieties, Twelve rice varieties (743,744,637,669,661,672,556,030,733,041,557)were tested in randomized block design with 4 replication at 25 locations in wet season 1980/198 I, Data on grain yield were analyzed with Ebernart and Russel method to evaluate yield varietal stability, The line 743 was the top yielder (45 persent higher than the lowes variety 557). The mean yield among 744, fi37, 669, 689,661,672,556,030,733 and 041 did not differ significantly. The however were higher than the mean overall varieties. Yield stability analyses indicated that the line 030 had a regression coefficient greater than one, and 661 had a regression coefficient significantly less than one. The other lmes had a regression coefficient did not differ significantly than one. However, all the lines had highly signijicant variances due to deviation from the regression, indicating that none ofthe varieties studied studied could be identified as a stable variety.id
