An experiment on the propagation of cocoa by cuttings was carried out at the Ciomas Experimental Staticn, Bogor, from December 1983 to March 1984. The result showed that leaf removal of the distal halves combined with treatment of 4000 ppm IBA stimulated rapid callus growth and primary root formation, so that it resulted the highest number of survival cuttings. This treatment also significantly affected the length or weight of shoots and roots, and the root number of the cuttings. The use of either top soil only, or sub soil placed above the top soil (1 : 2) in polythene bag as a rooting medium did not significantly affect the number and ccndition of growth compcnent of survival cuttings.id
