dc.description.abstract"Wilis" , a soybean (Glycine max Merr) variety was released by Bogor Research Institute for Food Crqps in 1983. Wilis originated from the F4-derived line of a cross between No. 1682 and Orba, made in Bogor in 1975. The progenies of the cross were selected using stratified mass selection based on maturity, from the F2 till F4. Pure lines were developed from the F4 pqpulation. The best line, No. 1682/1343-1-1-0, was released as a new variety, called Wilis. Averaged yield of Wilis across 18 environments yielded 1626 kg/ha, while the old variety Orba produced 1311 kg/ha, and local variety 1269 kg/ha. Wilis matures in 88 days, 40 -50 em height, determinate type, branching, and resistant to lodging. It has a small seed is vigorous and tolerating a poor drainage soil. Wilis produces well on the lowland after rice, even without land preparatioo. It is expected that Wilis replaces the local varieties commonly grown in Central and East Jawa, and Bali. The breeder seed of Wilis is maintained at Bogor Res. Institute for Food Crops, Bogor.id
