Crosses and back-crosses were made between tomato lines resistant and susceptible to bacterial witt (Pseudomonas solanacearum) under field conditions in Bogor area. Both parents and the families of F l' back-crosses, and F 2 were tested simultaneously for reactions to the bacterial wilt in a highly infested area at expetimental plots of Tajur Experimental Farm (Bogor) of IPB Experimental Farms. Analysis of the data showed the possibility that bacterial wilt resistance is inherited quantitatively, the environmental effects were night, and the heritability was low. Better control of environmental factors are required for a better estimate of heritability in bacterial wilt resistance. The recurrent selection method of breeding is being applied to increase the frequency of resistant genes in the tomato population.id
