dc.description.abstractThe measurement of swrose content of sugar cane is usually cm'ed out by using polanineter and Brix Wager scale. These two qparafus are operated manually so that the accuracy of the measurement results is depended on the operator skill. To overcame this prvblem we have developed an alternative mdhod that can measure the sucrose content more quick& and accurately than the conventional methods. This new method was canied out by using ultrasonic waves whose veloc~tyd epends on the sucme content. Firstly, the eledronic apparatus used was catibrated with 37 smples of sugar cme wifh various sucrose content from 4.46 % to 7.29 %. The result of this calibration was an empirical equation between the unrasonic wave velixtfy V and the sucrose content R, i.e. R = 2.6 5'Vi - ff,95 V + 17,65 where R in % and V in kmfs. Then this equation was stored as database h a computer program thd will be used to calculate the sucrose content. Finalty, this sucrose content measurement system was tested by using 30 smples of sugar cane. The maximum error of the measurement resull was 6.4 %.id
