Pegmcm~n c.blYl, is a volatile dl plant. Tissue cultures of I? eabtin leaves were studied on volatile oil synthesis media with different plant growth regulators. Cultures on media with picloram or 2,4 dkblorophenoxy acid (6.1-1.0 mgll) did not show differentiated callus. However, it did show callus differentiation as well u adventitious shoot generation on the culture media supplemented with naphthalene acetic acid or indole butyrlc add (0.1-1.0 m%l). The major component of volatile oils in I? c&h is patchouly 8lcohoL Thin layer chmmaroQIphy and gas chromatography were employed to analyre the quality and quantity of patchoaly alcohol hrrm shoot and callur cultures. The results showed that the content of patchouly alcohol was very low and only detectable In differentiated callus cultures.id
