Plaintive cuckoo (Cacomantis merulinus) is a member of brood parasitic cuckoo that potentially become an indicator of bird diversity in an ecosystem. This species is quite common in urban area; however, it is more frequently heard than seen. The decreasing green open spaces and poaching for songbirds have made it more challenging to observe the Plaintive Cuckoo. This study aimed at identifying the distribution of the Plaintive Cuckoo in several habitat types in IPB Dramaga Campus by using combination of survey and triangulation methods based on bird calls. The research was conducted from March to May 2023 in six different habitat types, including mixed forests, wetlands, agricultural areas, homogeneous forests, residential areas, and parks. The data was analyzed using the Morisita Dispersion Index. The calculated Morisita Index was 2.28, indicating an even distribution pattern. Further research is needed to investigate the role of Plaintive cuckoo as an environmental indicator for habitat assessment on the IPB Darmaga Campus.
