An investigation was carried out to study the incidence of checked and leaked eggs produced by brown and white egg layers, at the Faculty of Animal Science, Bogor Agricultural University, from early 1978 t o early 1979. Three brown egg strains (White, Hy-Line B-300 and Babcock CP-406) and three white egg strains (Babcock B -380, Brown Hyline and Haxco CP-306) were used. Observation on the incidence of checks and leaks, using an electric candler, was done on all eggs produced during the first three consecutive days of each month with 28 days interval, after the hens had reached 50% Hen-Day Production. The results showed that there was no significant effect of strains on the incidence of checked and leaked eggs although the brown eggs showed a tendency of having higher percentage of checked eggs than the white ones.id
