Abstract

The objective of the research were to examine the workload for several age levels of workers, to observe the tools and equipments utilization effect to fatigue, and also to recommend an optimal work system that related with tools/equipment utilization and work scheduling through ergonomic approach of sweet potato processing. The subjects employed in this research were 12 employees that divided based on age level into young, middle, and old age. The results of this research showed that the highest energy consumption when doing a work is on subject in old age group. Therefore, the morning shift is preferable to be taken by the old age workers with assistance from young and middle age workers, whereas afternoon and night shift were preferable for middle and young age. The highest productivity was coming from the middle age group that was constant in every work shift. The questionnaire results indicated that the workload of subjects on medium workload category, but in case of working equipment, subjects were situated in very uncomfortable category for using working tools and equipment, so the repairments based on anthropometric dimensions are required in order to fit the workers to the task.
