      Synthesis and characterization of nanosilica from boiler ash with co-precipitation method

      Abstract
      Boiler a:>h k11ow11 as solid waste of sugar industry willi high silicon dioxide. Na11usilica can be synthesized from boiler ash with coprecipitatio11 method. Precipitation still produced amorphous and heterogenous 11a11oparticles because of reaction spo11ta11ity. Modification using pr1lysacc/1arides as dispersing agent improved its ability to sy11tltesize homogenous silica nanoparticles. This study aimed to synthesize and characlerize 11a11osilica from boiler a flr 111ith coprecipilatio11 melhod. Polyrnccl:arides J/wl were used on lliis research include rice flour and agar po111der 111ith co11ce11tratio11 25% (w/w) silica. The characteristics of 11a11osilica were observed by particle size distribution, crystal/inity, crystal she a11d morphology. Based 011 analysis, the use of polysaccharides as dispersing agent 011 precipitation method altered c/1aracterististics of nanosilica. Agar po111der and ricf' flour reduced particle size anti polydispasity index, turned crystallinity and crystal she, and formed unique particle morphology. The best charucteristic of 11a11osilica was resulted by coprecipitation method 11si11g rice flour. It had average purtic/e size 185.25 11111, po/ydispersity index 0.26, crystallinity 28. 76%, average crystal sizl! 22.44 11111.
