      Abstract
Growth hormone has been reported to be able to increase fish adaptability to the environment. The purpose of this research was to evaluate the growth performance, feed efficiency, survival rate, and stress level of growth hormone transgenic common carp reared in low temperature (15±0.3 °C). The design used in this research was completely randomized design consisted of 2 treatments (transgenic and non-transgenic) and 3 replications. Transgenic and non-transgenic common carp were reared in 30x25x30 cm3 sized tanks with stocking density of 10 fishes/tank for 30 days. The results showed that there was no significant differences in growth between transgenic and non-transgenic fishes (p>0.05). The survival rate of both transgenic and non-transgenic fishes was 100%. There was also no significant difference found in total feed consumption of transgenic and non-transgenic fishes (p>0.05) and it was 3.43±0.01 g for transgenic and 3.71±0.16 g for non-transgenic. Similar result was also found in feed efficiency between transgenic and non-transgenic fishes (p>0.05), 86.85±14.03% for transgenic and 70.57±8.36% for non-transgenic. Resistance against stress of transgenic fish was presumed higher compared to non-transgenic fish indicated by significant difference in their blood glucose level (p<0.05). Glucose level of transgenic fish (51.56±7.40 mg/dL) was lower compared to non-transgenic fish (90.78±12.44 mg/dL). It could be concluded that transgenic common carp reared in low temperature was presumed has higher resistance against stress compared to non-transgenic fish, meanwhile the survival rate, growth, and feed efficiency of transgenic and non-transgenic common carp were similar.
