Rancangan Kemasan Karton Bergelombang dengan Bahan Pengisi untuk Transportasi Jagung Semi (Baby corn)
Abstract
Baby corn packaging usually use crate during transportation whereas it could make mechanical damages to the product like scratch, bruised, broke, and ripen rapidly. The purpose of this research was to design a proper packaging using carton material and filled material that could maintain the quality of baby corn during the transportation. In this research, C flute and BC flute, that has dimension (31x23x9)cm, (46.5x23.5x9)cm, (32x24x10)cm, (47.5x24.5x10)cm, were used as the outer packaging, B flute as inner, PE plastic as primary packaging, and pieces of paper as filling material. K4C and K6C were selected because those more adaptable in cold storage, those has good compression strength, and lower cost. Transportation conversion simulation result during two hours is similar to 169.553 km out of town length or 2.83 hours with 60 km/hour speed. Mechanical damage of the K4C is 17% meanwhile the K6C 15.9%, this is caused by the pieces of paper which used as the filling material around the product. The treatment of packaging directly influent to the parameter reduced of weight, hardness, and total dissolved solids of baby corn. On the other hand, the treatment of packaging indirectly influent the water content in the baby corn.
