      Abstract
Enhanced growth can highly contribute to the increased farming production. This research was conducted to compare the growth and survival of African catfish juvenile after immersion in water containing 2 mg/L recombinant giant grouper hormone (rElGH) for 2 and 4 hours. This research consisted of four treatments and three replications. A total of 100 catfish larvae at 5-day-old after hatching were hiperosmotic treated on 35 g/L salt solution for 2 minutes, and then bath immersed in a plastic packing containing 9 g/L salt solution, rElGH, and 100 mg/L bovine serum albumin (BSA). Control was created for each treatments and immersed in water containing 100 mg/L BSA. Fish were further maintained for 21 days in the aquarium, and fed on blood worm, ad libitum. The result showed that fish biomass of 4 hours treatment was approximately 25.12% higher compared to the control and 12.24% compared to 2 hours treatment. Fish survival in 4 hours treatment (60.0±8.3%) was higher than the 2 hours treatment (56.0±10.7%). Thus, the growth of Sangkuriang catfish seed can be improved by immersing in water containing rElGH during 4 hours, and this technology can be useful to improve African catfish farming.
