Animal models are deliberately kept to be used as experimental animals, it can be used as a model to evaluate diet, drugs, active compounds and feed supplements. Animal models with calcium deficiency is an animal which have serum or plasma calcium lower than in normal condition. This research was aimed to evaluate calcium balance of rats (Rattus norvegicus) in deficiency of calcium. Variables measured were feed and calcium intake, calcium of feces, calcium absorption, plasma calcium, calcium of bone, calcium in the liver, and kidney and daily weight gain. Data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that there were not significant different between control and calcium deficiency diet groups for all parameters, except plasma calcium of the rat fed control diet higher than that of the rat fed deficiency calcium diet. It was concluded that plasma calcium of rat fed calcium deficiency diet was low due to the low calcium intake so that become homeostasis process in whole body. Rats as animal model of calcium deficiency has lower calcium plasma of 33%.
