      Effect of electrolyte drink made from palm sugar (Arenga pinnatamerr) for lamb transportation

      Abstract
      Long distance of sheep transportation can cause stress. In general, the losses caused by poor handled include physiological, phychological and economical factor. The aims of study was to observe the effect of initial information isotonic drink made from Palm Sugar (Arenga PinnataMerr),and the effect ofisotonic drinks best on the sheep transportation physiological responses, body weight shrinkage, feed intake reduction and changing in blood profiles. A total of 20 local garut sheep under 1 years old were trasported for 120 km distance and took aproximatly ±8 hours. The study used CRD (completely randomized design) consisted of three traetments with 5 replicates. The treatments were the time of offering isotonic drink as follows:P1= control (without isotonic drink), P2= offering isotonic drink an hour before trasnsportation, P3= offering isotonic drink after after transportation, and P4= offering isotonic drink before and after transportation. The results showed that on body temperature, heart rate, respiration rate. Shrinkage percentage of body weight, feed consumption and the value of neutrophils (P <0.05). Body weight shrinkage percentage, feed intake reduction and the value of neutrophils (P<0.05). Average body weight lowest shrinkage P3 (5.73%) and the highest P1(10,05%), the lowest decrease in feed consumption P2 (20%) P.1 highest (42.6%) and an increase in the value of neutrophils P3 (51.78%) and the highest P1(67.76%). It was concluded of this study was isotonic drink is the provision of an isotonic drink made from palm sugar with isotonic drinks granting post-transport P3 showed positive results for body weight and value depreciation blood neutrophils, but for best consumption reduction obtained P2. However, effect of isotonic drinks have not been able to provide the restorative effects of stress in a short time.
