Preliminary design and feasibility analysis of processing coffee been plant in the District Bener Meriah, Aceh Province
Abstract
Coffee is one of the commodities that are traded internationally, and can act as a source of foreign exchange. The District Bener Meriah is a coffee producing area in the Aceh Province. This area produces a high volume of coffee. However, with those coffee production the society is still economically disadvantaged because the coffee trading system is still controlled by the middlemen. The purpose of this research is to design a coffee processing plant which process coffe bean into rice coffee and analyze the financial feasibility of the business. The village of Pondok Gajah Sub-District of Bandar was selected as the location of the plant. The plant was designed to operate on production capacity of 1,000 kg/day with the main equipment includes a pulper machine, huller machine, and other supporting equipment. Based on the financial analysis carried out the necessary capital investment is Rp. 317,423,000.00 and the cost of production per year is Rp.2,902,831,710.00. The projected profits earned in the business of processing coffee beans is Rp. 64,341,333.00. Breakeven point is 64,825.95 kg. Payback period is about 9 months, while the ratio of investment income to be used to make a profit is 10.71. With NPV of Rp 1, 523,542,701.66, Net B/C 5.97, Gross B/C 1.10 and IRR 77.98%, which is greater than the applicable interest rate is (12.30% pa), it can be concluded that the business of processing coffee beans is financially feasible.
