Pola Konsumsi Pangan dan Pengaruh Minuman Minyak Bekatul- Cokelat terhadap Aktivitas Superoksida Dismutase Mahasiswa Obes
Abstract
Rice bran oil and chocolate have been known for antioxidant capabilities from their bioactive compounds. Therefore, rice bran oil and chocolate were made as functional drink. The objectives of this research were to identify eating habits and to analyze the effect of rice bran oil-chocolate drink intervention on superoxide dismutase activity in obese college students. This research used a preexperimental design with one group pretest-posttest design, consisted of 12 obese IPB college students. Intervention was performed by giving two glasses of drink every day and equivalent to 57.2 mg of γ-oryzanol. Consumption of rice bran oilchocolate drink significantly increased intake vitamin E in obese college students (p<0.05). Activity of plasma superoxide dismutase between pre- and postintervention was not significantly different (p>0.05) but tends to decrease after the intervention and probably because of γ-oryzanol high protection capabilities againts oxidative stress, so it can decrease plasma superoxide dismutase activity of obese college students.
