Red chilly (Capsicum frutescens) has shown a high price fluctuation. This situation will have a negative impact to chilly farming and farmers' income. Farmer as a price taker, have to bear this business risk and face income uncertainty. Cigedug Village in Garut district, West Java, as one of red chilly production centers was chosen as a research site. This research analyzed characteristics, income, on farm efficiency and marketing system of red chilly. Results of this study showed that activities of chilly farming consisted of land preparation, planting, cultivating, plan protection, and harvesting. Gross income of red chilly farming was profitable with R/C ratio of 3,69. Other finding was that market channel I (farmer to collector to Kramat Jati wholesaler in Jakarta to retailer to end consumer was considered to be the most efficient than other channels. This was indicated by level of selling price received by farmers was relatively high and volume of chilly distributed through market channel I was the biggest. Market structure faced by marketing institutions in Cigedug Village was oligopsony. Market integration was not found between farmers and wholesale market of Kramat Jati, either in the short run or in the long run.
