Rice field eel Monopterus albus is live naturally in mud medium, however rice field culture in this medium is ineffecient and difficult to observe the animal. This research was conducted to determine the best production performance of Monopterus albus on different aquaculture system, i.e aquaculture mud medium, clear water and clear water with aquatic plants kapu-kapu Pistia startiotes. This experiment was conducted at Department of Aquaculture, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, Bogor Agricultural University. The juvenile with average length of 23,26±0,40 cm and weight of 9,35±0,42 g were reared in plastic layer ponds with 7 cm water depth and using continuous water flow system. Fish density was 30 individu/0,25 m2 and reared for 30 days. During the rearing period, the fish was fed using with earthworm at a level of 5% biomass once a day. The result indicated that different medium significantly affected fish survival, i.e. clear water system (11.11±7.7%) with mud medium (31.11±1.92%) and clear water with aquatic plants (25.55±6.94%), but did not affect specific growth rate, daily weight gain and length. According to blood glucose level, fish on mud medium showed a decreased level of 28,78 mg/dL from 58,78±10,79 mg/dL to 30±4,71 mg/dL.Proximate analyses showed that protein and lipid levels were decreasing except for fish that reared in mud medium. In conclusion, rice field eel culture with mud substrate and clear water with aquatic plants resulted in the best production performance
