      Abstract
      Chilli productivity in Indonesia has decreased up to 0.29% in 2010 compared with 2009 (BPS 2012). This decrease mostly was due to pests and diseases attack (BPS 2012). Moreover,improper pesticide usage could be dangerous to human and biological enviroment. This research aims to develop a knowledge base for tropical pests and diseases management of chilli peppers. This knowledge is very critical for supporting various application, such decision support systems, expert systems, consultation systemsrelated to tropical pests and diseases management of chilli peppers. Knowledge base was developed in several stages including problem identification, knowledge acquisition, knowledge representation, knowledge codification, implementation prototype application and testing. Knowledge acquisition was acquired from books, journals, factsheets and human experts. In our system, knowledge is represented as decision trees/decision tables and semantic net. Result of the research is a knowledge base for tropical pests and diseases management of chilli peppers that has been implemented using PostgreSQL.The application prototype was built using PHP on a web platform basis. The knowledge base consists ofpests and diseases identification, knowledge of pests and diseaseshandling. The developed knowledge base consists of 31 types of tropical pests and diseases (6 types of pests and 25 types of diseases)
