Objectives of the study was to understand the performance of four strains (Red NIFI, Nirwana, Merah Lido, and BEST) nile tilapine hybrids based on the number of larvae produced, survival and growth rate, heterosis, morphometric character, and color inheritance aspect. Fry of 25 days old were reared in fine floating net cages sized 2x2x1 m for 8 weeks (56 days) with density of 50 fry per m3. Feed was given three times a day at 10% of total biomass. The results showed that the average production of larvae had the highest number from the hybrids or female Nirwana crossed with different male from other strains. For growth rate, hybrids showed better performance than the parent one (p<0,05), the best growth rate was between male Red NIFI x female BEST (6,44±0,07%). Survival rate had the best performance on male Merah lido x female BEST (77,00±2,78%). The best heterosis value was found 5,82% for spesific growth rate on the hybrids of male Nirwana x female BEST. Phenotypic similarity indicated that Red NIFI was separate a part from the others. Crossing between light (red color) and dark (black) background showed that light color gene was dominance over dark color one.
