Survival Analysis and its Application in Education. Case Study in South Jakarta
Analisis Survival dan Aplikasinya dalam Bidang Pendidikan (Studi Kasus di Jakarta Selatan)
Abstract
Survival data are observational data measured in certain period until the occurrence of an event, i.e. death, response, or onset of symptoms. Cohort of grade 1 to 6 of elementary school students are examples of the survival data. Survival data can be analyzed using life table, Kaplan-Meier, or Cox proportional hazard methods. The aim of this study is to analyze conditions of education in Indonesia using survival models. The data are obtained from elementary schools in South Jakarta using purposive sampling. This study shows that survival analysis using life table and Kaplan-Meier methods give the same result. Meanwhile, Cox proportional hazard method can not be applied, because the hazard functions between characteristics are not proportional. Furthermore, some statistical tests show that gender, as well as status and type of school, do not significantly affect the length of study.
