Isolation of active compound from Zingiber ottensii Va which has potency as antiobesity.

Abstract

Bangle hantu (Zingiber ottensii Va) one type of bangle (Zingiber cassumunar) was suspected has the same character with bangle (Z.cassumunar) as anti obesity. The purpose of this research was to identity the active compounds from Z. ottensii which has potency to inhibit the pancreatic lipase activity. The research was divided into two main phases, (1) isolation of Z. ottensii crude extract using three solvents with different polarity and (2) isolation essential oil of fresh ginger of Z. ottensii by water distillation. Z. ottensii contained of flavonoids, saponins, tannins, quinines, steroids, and terpenoid. The IC50 of ethanolic extract, ethyl acetat extract, and n-hexane extract was higher than 1000 μg/mL, 72,35 μg/mL, and 27.49 μg/mL, respectively. The fractionation of ethyl acetate extract by column chromatography resulted five fractions. The IC50 of fraction E was 18,74 μg/mL, lower than IC50 of fraction A, B, C, and D.

Obesitas dalam beberapa tahun terakhir meningkat pada tingkat yang mengkhawatirkan dan menjadi masalah kesehatan di seluruh dunia. Obesitas adalah kelebihan berat badan sebagai akibat dari penimbunan lemak tubuh yang berlebihan, hal ini disebabkan oleh asupan lemak dalam tubuh yang lebih besar daripada jumlah pemanfaatannya sebagai sumber energi. Beberapa penyakit yang dikaitkan dalam obesitas adalah diabetes, hipertensi, osteoarthritis, dan penyakit hati (Yun 2010).
