During forty years recently the metacognition is being the main research about developing cognition. The focus of metacognitive ability is located on two components namely knowledge and believe in dealing cognition phenomena and also leading and controling toward cognition action. In this research is studied by the effect of statistical metacognitive ability toward statistical cognitive ability especially and the effect toward academic achievement commonly. Other factor that is followed in analysis is academic aptitude and prior knowledge that is predicted to determine the success on someone’s study in college. Research design is used for explanatory research design which analysis tools used confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structural equation modeling (SEM). The result of this research shows that effect prior knowledge toward statistical cognitive ability is bigger than academic aptitude effect. Continuously, that has effect from the bigest to the smallest one toward academic achievement are academic aptitude, statistical cognitive ability, prior knowledge, and statistical metacognitive ability. Selama 40 tahun terakhir metakognisi menjadi salah satu bidang utama penelitian-penelitian tentang pengembangan kognisi. Walaupun konsep “kemampuan metakognisi” mempunyai banyak definisi, namun fokus kemampuan metakognisi terletak pada dua komponen penyusunnya, yaitu pengetahuan dan keyakinan mengenai fenomena kognisi serta pengaturan dan kontrol terhadap tindakan kognisi. Pada penelitian ini dikaji pengaruh langsung maupun tidak langsung kemampuan metakognisi terhadap kemampuan kognisi statistika pada khususnya dan pengaruh terhadap prestasi akademik pada umumnya. Faktor lain yang diikutsertakan dalam analisis adalah faktor potensi akademik dan pengetahuan awal yang diduga turut menentukan keberhasilan belajar seseorang pada jenjang perguruan tinggi.
