      Abstract
Aquaculture in the mainland should be improved as a result of the use of land areas for various aspects of life. Peatlands spread across several islands in Indonesia. The utilization of peat lands for aquaculture activity is still low, because it have caracteristic high acidity level, black color water and low oxygen content. Tropical peatlands are typically sour with a pH range of 4 to 5. The objective of study is to determine utilization of acidic water as a medium of several strains of tilapia farming, analyze tilapia strains that have resistance to acid pH in terms of survival, length and weight growth, feed efficiency, and gills of tilapia histology various strains were maintained in acidic water. The results of research showed thatBEST tilapia and GIFT strains couldn’t survive. It’s showed by 0% of survival rate. Red tilapia strain could survive in the media's treatment of acid, the survival rate was 30%, specific growth rate was 1.34 ± 1.20%, length growth rate of 0.66 ± 0.40%, with a feed efficiency of 45.26 ± 22.56% for 30 days. The acidity treatment on media could caused damaged in gill lamella include the damage such as hypertrophy, hyperplasia, fuse, necrosis, hemorrage, and epithelial lining up with different levels of damage.
