      Abstract
An experiment has been conducted to study the effect of feeding corncob prebiotic on nitrogen retention and metabolizable energy of broiler diet post-infected with Escherichia coli bacteria. Thirty broiler chickens at five week of age were used in this experiment and divided into six treatment groups and each consisted of five replications. The treatments were K1 (basal diet, non infected E. coli), K2 (basal diet, infected E. coli), P1 (basal diet + prebiotic 2.5%, non infected E. coli), P2 (basal diet + prebiotic 2.5%, infected E. coli), B1 (basal diet + antibiotic 0.05%, non infected E. coli), B2 (basal diet + antibiotic 0.05%, infected E. coli). The diets contained 3150 kcal/kg ME and 18% crude protein according to Leeson and Summers (2005). Antibiotic used in this experiment was Bambermycin. A Completely Randomized Factorial Design was used in this experiment and Duncan’s multiple range test used as further test. Adding prebiotics in the diet of broilers infected with E. coli significantly (P<0.05) increased metabolizable energy. Adding prebiotics in the diet of broilers significantly (P<0.01) decreased nitrogen consumption and nitrogen retention. The conclusion of this study is that prebiotics supplementation in the diet of broiler improved on metabolizable energy.
