Performa Produksi Dan Karakteristik Organ Dalam Ayam Kampung Umur 12-16 Minggu Yang Diinfeksi Cacing Ascaridia galli Dan Disuplementasi Ekstrak Daun Jarak Pagar (Jatropha curcas Linn)
Abstract
J. curcas leaf contains some active substances such as flavonoid, saponin, steroid, phenol hidroquinon, triterpenoid and alkaloid which have a potential role as natural anthelmintics to replace synthetic anthelmintic for poultry. This study was carried out to investigate the effect of J. curcas Linn leaves extract and albendazole on performances and internal organs percentage of kampong chickens aged 12-16 weeks. The chickens kept in cage system during 28 days. A completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatments and four replications was used in this experiment. The treatments were : Basal diet (R1), Basal diet + 5% J. curcas Linn leaves extract in water (R2), Basal diet + 10% J. curcas Linn leaves extract in water (R3), and Basal diet + 1% albendazole in water (R4). The parameters observed were performances (feed consumption, final body weight, body weight gain and feed conversion) and internal organs percentage (liver, heart, gizzard, kidney, spleen, intestines, length of intestines and relative length of intestines). Data were analyzed using analysis of variance. The treatment effects were further analyzed using Duncan multiple range test. The results showed that supplementation of J. curcas Linn leaves extract and albendazole did not affect the feed consumption, feed conversion, body weight gain and internal organ percentage. However, supplementation of albendazole decreased (p<0.05) the small intestine percentage. It is concluded that supplementation of J. curcas Linn leaves extract up to 10% was not effective as albendazole to increase body weight gain.
