Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) Molekular Marker on Jombang Dwarf Coconut
Abstract
Information of genetic diversity in coconut (Cocos nuifera L.) is necessary to support the breeding programs and germplasm conservation efforts. RAPD is molecular marker can provide to enhance the efficiency of early selection for time consuming of coconut breeding. The objective of this research was to study the genetic diversity of Jombang Dwarf coconut populations at Pakuwon and Mapanget Coconut Research Station (BALITKA) and at Jombang. DNA was amplified via Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) using ten random decamer primers and generated 72 (92%) RAPD polymorphic markers. Genetic diversity of coconut populations in BALITKA was higher than in Jombang. Genetic diversity of Jornbang Dwarf coconut among populations was 20%.
