      Abstract

Snakehead fish has high economic value and is beneficial for health, however, its cultivation faces challenges such as high feed costs and slow growth. Solutions such as the use of growth hormones to support optimal growth can be implemented. The aim of this research is to identify the effectiveness of recombinant growth hormone (rElGH) administration through artificial feed on the growth of snakehead fish seeds. The study comprises two treatments with four replications each: one without the addition of rElGH to the feed, and the other with the addition of rElGH to the feed at a dosage of 5 mg/kg of feed. The snakehead fish seeds (body length 6.5 ± 0.07 cm; weight of 2.10 ± 0.12 g; width 0.44 ± 0.03 cm), reared using cages sized 1.0 × 1.0 × 1.0 m3 with a stocking density of 30 individuals/m2. The fish seeds are reared for 60 days using the at satiation feeding method with pellets containing 34-36% protein. During the study period, rElGH feed was administered only during the first week, followed by feeding without rGH. The results of the study show that oral administration of recombinant growth hormone (rElGH) at a dosage of 5 mg/kg of feed to snakehead fish seeds can enhance growth. This dosage resulted in a 52.80% greater increase in weight compared to the control group, while length and width growth also increased by 34.74% and 12.27% respectively compared to the control group.
