      Abstract

Oxidative stress is a condition of imbalance between the production and degradation of free radicals in the body. Excessive amounts of free radicals can be counteracted by the presence of antioxidants. The Black Soldier Fly maggot is known to activate antioxidant signaling, making it a potential source of natural antioxidants. This research aimed to identify metabolites and analyze the inhibition of lipid autooxidation process by crude extract of Black Soldier Fly maggot from Sindangjaya Village, Cianjur. A total of 83 compounds were identified in maggot crude extract based on Liquid Chromatography Tandem-Mass Spectrometry analysis. The highest antioxidant activity based on the thiobarbituric acid method was produced by the methanol extract of maggot fed with kitchen waste, with an inhibition value of 94.71% at a concentration of 5 μg/mL. This value was much higher than α-tocopherol which only produced an inhibition value of 74.85% at the same concentration. Maggot extracts fed with kitchen waste had stronger antioxidant activity than those fed with agricultural waste.
