      Abstract

Aloe vera L. is the most commercialized species of aloe vera and the processing of the flesh on its leaves has become a major industry worldwide. Along with the increase in the aloe vera processing industry, it causes solid waste in the form of aloe vera leaf skin. The purpose of this research was to design, build, and test an aloe vera leaf grinding machine that can produce powder with three different sizes namely 4, 2, and 0,4 mm. The main components of the machine consist of the machine frame, grinder housing, pulley and belt cover, hopper and output. This machine powered by 0,5 HP electric motor with speed of 2800 rpm. Dried aloe vera skin with a water content of 7% is put into the hopper to enter the grinding process. The aloe vera skin will be ground by a chopping knife and then filtered by a sieve. The grinding results will enter the output funnel. The functional test results of each part of the machine are able to function well. The highest flouring capacity and yield were respectively at 5 mesh size at 3,20 kg/hour and 85,98%. The lowest machine loss was at size 5 mesh at 5,36%.
