Kondisi Fisiologis Domba Garut Jantan yang Mendapat Ransum dengan Kadar Kromium dan Kation-Anion Berbeda pada Suhu Lingkungan Panas
Abstract
Chromium (Cr) is an essential mineral for the animal body and required for normal metabolism of carbohydrate, protein, lipid and nucleic acid, hormonal regulation and immune function. Degradation of Cr level in sheep body increases stressor hormone that decreases health status of the animals. The objective of this experiment was to study the efficacy of chromium and dietary cation anion balance (DCAB) to improve physiological condition of sheep in high environment temperature. Twenty four of sheep were grouped in six weight categories and allocated into four dietary treatments. Dietary treatments were: R0= basal diet DCAB +14, R1= basal diet with 3 ppm organic-Cr, R2= DCAB 0 without organic-Cr, R3= DCAB 0 with 3 ppm organic-Cr. The basal diet composed of 35% maize straw and 65% concentrate. Diet and water were offered ad libitum. Rectal temperature, respiration rate, and bloods profile were observed. Rectal temperature, respiration rate, and bloods profile were not influenced by organic-Cr supplementation and manipulation of dietary cation anion balance. Result of environmental temperature 33 OC and humidity 68 % is rectal temperature (38.70-39.14 OC), respiration rate increases (8- 15 %), and stress indicated in all of sheep from netrofil/limfosit ratio 2-3. It was concluded that the supplementation of organic-Cr and manipulation of DCAB is not influence when the environmental temperature varied from 24-33 OC.
