Land suitability analysis for agriculture area using weighted method: a case study in Bogor
Abstract
This research was conducted from January 2005 June 2005, In Bogor, West Java- Indonesia. Geographically the area is located between 106°35'00" - 106°50"30" East longitude, and 06°25'00" - 06°45'00' South latitude. The area cover 743.65 square kilometers and consists of 21 (twenty-one) sub districts, including municipality. The main objective of this research is to define suitable area for agriculture by using weighted method. The general objectives of the research area are: 1) to provide information about weighted method technical to analyze land suitability, 2) to provide information land suitability for agriculture of Bogor area. The data input was collected from various source, among others: 1) The National Coordinating Agency for Survey and Mapping (Bakosurtanal), 2) Center for Soil and Agroclimate Research (Puslitanak)- Bogor for information on soil type which is derived from the regional soil type map of Bogor, 3) The Bureau of Metrology and Geophysics (BMG) - Bogor for rainfall data. 4) Biotrop Training and Information Center of SEAMEO BIOTROP for the imagery of Landsat TM 2002 and Landsat TM 2000 for West Java. The analysis method used is the weighted method overlay conducted using Arc View-32 focusing on weighted method for single crop, weighted method for group crops, weighted method for an area. From the analysis, we concluded the following: 1) technically, the use of weighted method is variable where each process is very much influenced by data input. 2) Weighted method analysis provides three criterias i.e. very suitable area, suitable area and less suitable area for each crop or group crop.
