Adsorpsi Biru Metilena menggunakan Campuran Kopolimer Cangkok Akrilamida pada Selulosa Kulit Nanas dan Karbon Aktif Berbantuan Mikrogelombang
Abstract
pencangkokan. Adsorben setelah penyerapan metilen biru menunjukkan
perubahan puncak serapan pada kisaran 600-1000 cm-1
yang menunjukkan adanya
vibrasi ikatan C-H pada cincin benzena. Analisis SEM menunjukkan adsorben
membentuk jaringan saling terhubung. Jaringan yang terbentuk menunjukkan
adanya ikatan silang yang terjadi antar rantai polimer. Berdasarkan nilai kapasitas
tinggi dibandingkan adsorben lainnya. Model kinetika adsorpsi dan isoterm
adsorpsi zat warna biru metilena memenuhi model orde dua semu dan isoterm
Langmuir.
The increasing use of methylene blue can pose problems to the environment
and a hazard to human health. Treatment of methylene blue as waste in water can
be done using the adsorption method. Cellulose is a polysaccharide biopolymer
that is widely used as an adsorbent. However, the presence of strong
intramolecular and intermolecular hydrogen makes cellulose difficult to use with
other compounds. Therefore, cellulose needs to be combined with other materials
in order to improve its performance as an adsorbent. Graft copolymerization is an
effective technique to improve the characteristics and properties of cellulose. The
combination of acrylamide grafting on cellulose with the addition of activated
carbon is expected to produce hybrids that not only have both properties but also
have new properties due to their interactions. This study aims to make an
adsorbent from acrylamide graft copolymer on cellulose with the addition of
activated carbon assisted by microwave irradiation and to test its performance as a
methylene blue adsorbent.
The steps of this research were the isolation of pineapple peel cellulose,
characterization of cellulose, manufacture of graft copolymer adsorbent, and test
its performance as methylene blue adsorbent. Pineapple peel cellulose which was
delignified using hydrogen peroxide showed cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin
content of 75,46% ; 7,23%; and 0,53%, respectively. The adsorbent of the
acrylamide graft copolymer on cellulose and activated carbon showed the
optimum grafting percentage found in the adsorbent 1:3:0.2 at the 4th minute;
1:4:0,2 and 1:5:0,2 in the 3rd minute are 95%; 99,74%; and 96,10%, respectively;.
However, the percentage of grafting decreased until the reaction time at 5 min.
This is because cellulose free radicals are no longer available and have been
bound to acrylamide monomorphic free radicals. Adsorption capacity of
methylene blue on the adsorbent 1:3:0,2 at the 4rd minute; 1:4:0,2 and 1:5:0,2 3rd
minute of 11,834; 14,005; and 6.013 mg/g, respectively.The pseude second order
kinetic model shows the adsorption rate on the adsorbent 1:3:0,2 in the 4th
minute, 1:4:0,2 and 1:5:0,2 in the 3rd minute of 16,129; 4.110; and 8.718 g/mg
min, respectively. The adsorption kinetics model and the adsorption isotherm of
methylene blue dye complied with the pseudo second order model and the
Langmuir isotherm based on the coefficient of determination (R2
).
The FTIR results for the best adsorbent showed a new absorption peak at
1675 cm-1 which indicated the stretching vibration of C=O. In addition, the
appearance of an absorption peak at 1608 cm-1 indicates the bending vibration of
N-H. The appearance of new peaks on the adsorbent confirmed the success of
grafting. The adsorbent after methylene blue absorption showed a change in the
absorption peak in the range of 600-1000 cm-1
indicating vibration of the C-H
bond on the benzene ring. SEM analysis shows that the adsorbent forms an
interconnected network. The network formed shows the presence of cross-links
that occur between polymer chains. Based on the adsorption capacity value, the
adsorbent 1:4:0.2 at minute 3 had a higher adsorption capacity than other
adsorbents. The adsorption kinetics model and the adsorption isotherm of
methylene blue dye complied with the pseudo second order model and the
Langmuir isotherm. The adsorbent can effectively remove or eliminate methylene
blue dye in aqueous media.
