Biofilter IV (briket arang tempurung kelapa ditambah 30 g zeolit alam Cikembar, Sukabumi) memiliki nilai efisiensi paling tinggi untuk menghilangkan gas amonia maksimum sebesar 96%. The increase in the number and types of industries in Indonesia has the
potential to increase the volume of waste discharged into the environment. One of
the problems that arise with the disposal of industrial waste into the environment
is the unpleasant odor caused by the process of decomposition of waste in the
form of sludge. Currently, there are not many who process and utilize industrial
waste in the form of sludge left over from the WWTP process in various
industries, because the type of sludge produced by the waste treatment unit
(WWTP) is usually stored in final disposal as B3 (hazardous and toxic materials)
so it has not been widely used. The government through PP No. 101 of 2014
regulates the mechanism for the exclusion of B3 waste as non-B3 waste, so that it
can be used as a legal basis for processing and utilizing sludge from the milkbased ice cream industry into other processing resources that are still of economic
value. The filter media that will be used in this study is a combination of charcoal
made from coconut shells with natural zeolite.
The removal of ammonia gas using a biofilter begins with the manufacture
of an incubation device and a biofilter column, testing of the biofilter column and
incubation, selection of filler material based on the results of a literature review,
sampling of filler material, preparation of filler material, then preparation of
samples of ice cream waste sludge from the ice cream industry in Indonesia.
Jababeka area, followed by measurement of pH and proximate analysis of sludge
(protein, fat, carbohydrates, water, ash), analysis of ammonia gas in sludge with
various variations of sludge weight and time. Then the biofiltration process and
the measurement of the smell of the sludge using fillers in variations in size, ratio
and absorption time.
The results of this study showed that the 100 g sludge sample produced the
highest and most stable odor gas compared to the 200 g and 300 g sludge samples.
Coconut shell charcoal with a particle size of 100 mesh is the most optimal
biofilter filler to remove ammonia gas with a maximum efficiency of 83%
compared to particle sizes of 20 mesh and 60 mesh which have ammonia gas
removal efficiency values of 76% and 76%, respectively. Biofilter IV (coconut
shell charcoal briquettes plus 30 g of natural zeolite Cikembar, Sukabumi) has the
highest efficiency value for removing ammonia gas, which is a maximum of 96%.
