      Abstract
This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of suplementation using Sapindus rarak extract on protozoal and bacteria population, fermentation characteristic and in vitro digestibility. The experimental design was Randomize Complete Block Design with 5 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments were: P1 (control diet consist on 48% forage, 50% concentrat and 2% feed block), P2 (P1 + 0.09% Sapindus rarak extract), P3 (P1+0.18% Sapindus rarak extract). Variables observed were protozoal and bacteria population, dry matter and organic matter digestibilities, total Volatile Fatty Acid (VFA) concentration and VFA molar proportion, ammonia (NH3) concentration, and total gas production. Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance and significant differences among treatment were examined using Duncan Multiple Range Test. The result showed that suplementation using Sapindus rarak extract did not significant decreased amonia (NH3) concentration and protozoa of population, but suplementation of Sapindus rarak extract increased bacteria population. Total gas production tend to increased during 0-48 h incubation. Dry matter and organic matter digestibilities and total VFA concentration was not affected by Sapindus rarak exstract suplementation. Molar proportion of VFA was shifted from asetat to propionat production and reduce the ration of acetat : propionat. Keywords: Sapindus rarak, ruminal fermentation, digestibility, saponin, ongole crossbreed
