Abstract: Modeling is considered to be one of the useful methods/approaches for problem solving. One of popular modeling approaches is the system dynamics modeling. It is about a perspective and set of conceptual tools that enable us to understand the structure and dynamics of complex system. System dynamics is also a rigorous modeling method that enables us to build formal computer simulations of complex systems and use them to design more effective policies and organizations. It has been deployed in a very wide variety of applications. This paper discuss the results of an un-intensive literature reviews on fundamental concept, modeling tools, and possible application of system dynamics modeling, including several examples of its application in agricultural sector in Indonesia. Pitfalls and good practices on system dynamics modeling approach is also discussed to ensure the effectiveness of its use in the future.
