| Abstract: | Javan leopard (Panthera pardus melas Cuvier, 1809) is an endemic species of Indonesia that can only be found in Java island. This species is stated as critically endangered, so that the conservation act is needed to save Javan leopard. The objective of this research is to identify and determine the infection and the intensity of the gastrointestinal helminths in Javan leopard from Pusat Penyelamatan Satwa Cikananga (PPSC) and Situgunung Park, Taman Nasional Gunung Gede Pangrango (TNGGP). Four individual stool samples were collected from PPSC on Januari-Februari 2014 and 3 stool samples were collected from Situgunung Park, TNGGP on May 2013 and March-June 2014. All samples were examined using modified McMaster, flotation, and modified sedimentation techniques. The result showed that all samples were infected by gastro-intestine helminths. The identified helminths were strongylids (85,71%), trichurid and ascarids (57,14%) and Strongyloides (28,57%). The range of eggs per gram (EPG) varied from <50-8825 EPG. The highest count were found in strongylid (<50- 8825 EPG) in PPSC, followed by trichurid (<50-3750 EPG) in PPSC and Strongyloides (700-1100 EPG) in SGP. The lowest count was ascarid (<50 EPG) which was found in PPSC and SGP. |
