The purpose of this study was to study carcass characteristics of swamp buffalo in Pandeglang. A total of 93 samples buffalo from abattoir in the district of Labuan, Pandeglang district, Banten Province. Carcass parameters include slaughter weight, carcass weight, percentage of carcass weight, back fat thickness and rib eye area. Relationship between age and carcass quality of buffalo were analyzed by using the general linear model approach. Age was grouped into I (< 2 years), II (2 – 4 years), and III (> 4 years). The results showed that the slaughter weight and carcass weight were influenced by age (P < 0.01) in both sexes buffalo. Influence of age on back fat thickness was found in female buffalo group (P < 0.01). Variables of carcass percentage and rib eye area musle was not affected by age in both sexes. Correlation analysis on carcass quality variables indicate that the slaughter weight positively correlated with carcass weight (0.89) and back fat thickness (0.47). Carcass weight correlated positively with back fat thickness (0.65) and rib eye area (0.22). Positive correlation was also found between the thickness of back fat with a large rib eye area (0.27).id
