dc.description.abstractTraditional whaling on sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus) has been performing using wooden boat equipped with harpoon. The range of body length of harvested sperm whales in Lamalera were approximately 4,5 – 20 m and 5 – 14 m for males and females, respectively. During the period between 1991 and 2014, there were 407 indivudual of spermwhale caught with fluctuating number collected from year to year. Local community of Lamalera apply the traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) of whaling in terms of selecting whaling area, using friendly technique and technology, and comply with regulation on whaling season. Community-based management can be applied to contribute in developing local community.en
