Abstract: Tumih wood (Combretocarpus rotundatus) is a lesser known species which usually grows in secondary forest or forest with an open canopy that is flooded with peat water and swamp peat in Central Kalimantan. The purpose of this research was to analyze physical properties and mechanical properties of tumih wood for appropriate processing and utilization. The results showed the average value of oven dry density and specific gravity of tumih wood were 0.99 g/cm3 and 0.70. Its fresh and air dry moisture content content were 63.51% and 18.64% respectively. The volume shrinkage from fresh conditions to air dry and oven dry conditions were 3.36% and 6.85%respectively. The tangential and radial shrinkage were 6.38% and 3.59% respectively. So the T/R shrinkage ratio was 1.86 which showed that this wood had good dimensional stability. Permeability of longitudinal was about 1.2 times and 1.4 times of radial and tangential permeability respectively. The mechanical test results of MOE, MOR, and hardness of tumih wood were 106 131.80 kg/cm2, 551.31 kg/cm2, and 119.45 kg/cm2 respectively. Based on this mechanical properties tumih wood was classified strength class III which is good to be used as sills, door panel, window, furniture, parquet flooring and rung .
