Abstract: | Tuberculosis is a bacterial disease that infect respiratory system. About 75% of the tuberculosis patient are 15-50 years old (Ministry of Health, 2007). World Health Organization (WHO) declared tuberculosis as global emergency cases and advised community to seek alternative treatment (Walujani, 2002). Therapist food is a product that was made to help the healing process of disease beside medical treatment. Fermented goat milk contain bioactive component that can suppress pathogenic bacteria growth and potential as therapist food. Roselle has strong antioxidant activity (Wang et al., 2000) and also potential to combine with goat milk to improve the function. The objectives of this research are to know the potential of yoghurt and koumiss goat milk with roselle extract as supporting therapist food for tuberculosis treatment and to know which is more effective between yoghurt and koumiss. The result show that yoghurt and koumiss with roselle extract are appropiate with Indonesia Standart (SNI) and qualify as probiotic product, can increase the number of mice body weight, hemoglobin, neutrophil, monocyte and eosinophil, also can increase the appetite and body weight of tuberculosis sufferer. |
