Abstract: Utilization of banana plant biomass as supercapacitor electrodes will give additional value to the waste. In this study, the banana peel contained the highest fixed carbon as compared with the midrib, stem, and leaves. The banana peel was charred at 400 oC and then activated at 700 °C with steam flow for 20 minutes. The active charcoal obtained (0.5 g) was modified by adding 2.65 mL of 40% HNO3. The results showed that the addition of 40% HNO3 reduce the pore structure and add C=O functional group in the activated charcoal which were both affected the capacitance value obtained. The capacitance of modified activated charcoal (270 F/g) was lower than that of the unmodified activated charcoal (341 F/g), in contrary to the hypothesis proposed. Based on this study, the 1:1 (b/b) mass ratio of polivynilidene fluoride conductor and the active ingredient is predicted to affect the capacitance.
