Abstract: Sistem perbankan konvensional selalu menggunakan instrumen suku bunga untuk menangani masalah informasi asimetrik melalui penaikan suku bunga kredit dan penerapan agunan (collateral) atas kredit.
Conventional banking system always uses either interest rate instrument to address asymmetric information problems by raising interest rate on loans or the application of collateral. It is clear that asymmetric information problems can lead to very serious consequences to the poor. Therefore, looking for financial systems which are immune to the problem of asymmetric information is urgent to be studied. Particularly in the adverse selection problem, the bank has no ability and knowledge to differentiate some investment projects based on their risks. Most of commercial banks conduct their banking and financial systems under interest scheme, which is vulnerable to asymmetric information problems. In this paper we provide a formal proof that sharia banking system, which operates under profit-and-loss sharing mechanism, has immunity against adverse selection problem
