Abstract: Low light intensity is a limiting factor in the cultivation of intercropping. The purpose of this research was to study the effect of shade on growth and production of shade tolerant tomato in intercropping system. The treatments was conducted in IPB experimental farm in Cikabayan from February to June 2014. The treatments was arranged in randomized complete block design with three replications. The experiment consisted of 6 intercropping treatments, 3 monoculture of tomatoes (Rempai, Bogor, Palupi) and 2 monoculture of corn with 80 cm x 40 cm and 100 cm x 40 cm planting distance. The result showed that intercropping system decreased tomatoes plant growth and production, except Palupi which is increase on intercropping treatment than it’s monoculture. However, intercropping system doesn’t affected growth and production of corn. The intercropped of tomatoes and corn gave the land equivalent ratio (LER) = 1.56-3.60, indicating that agronomically intercropping system were more adventageous than those in the monoculture system.
