Abstract: Produksi bawang merah konvensional dengan penanaman umbi terus-menerus menyebabkan akumulasi patogen, terutama virus.
Conventional onion production using bulbs continually leads to the accumulation of pathogens, especially viruses. This problem can be overcome by the use of true shallot seed (TSS). TSS production in Indonesia meets constraints of climate factors, especially photoperiods. Climatic constraints addressed by vernalisation, gibberellins (GA) and photoperiods. Vernalisation experiment (without and with vernalisation) and GA treatment (0, 50, 100, 200 ppm) was conducted in a greenhouse on plants in polybag. The treatment is done by natural photoperiods (planting time in fourth week of June 2011 and the fourth week of September 2011) and GA (0, 50, 100, 200 ppm) was conducted in the field experimentation. The experimental results showed THAT vernalisation of seed bulbs at 100C for 3 weeks is a flowering determinant of shallots. GA treatment increased the percentage of plants flowering two to three times on vernalized plants, but had no effect on the plant without vernalisation. The experimental results of photoperiod and GA have not been able to be reported in full because it is still ongoing
