Abstract: | This study was aimed to analyze chitosan intake on plasma triglyceride levels and body weight in rats Sprague-dawley fed by trans fatty acid. This study was experimental study with Post Test Only Control Group Design. The subjects were male Sprague-dawley rats, 2 months old. The subjects were divided in to 1 control (K) and 3 treatment groups which received chitosan as much as 0.035 g (P1), 0.045 g (P2), and 0.055 g (P3). Fed with high-fat diet was given by melted margarine as source of trans fatty acids as much as 1.7 g per day for 4 weeks. Measurement of triglyceride levels was done at second week dan fourth week after intervention and the body weight was weighed once per 3 days. The study revealed that feeding of margarine in a dose of 1.7 g per day increased body weight most high in K0 amount 32.1% or 63.8 g during 2 weeks and 54% or 107.2 g during 4 weeks intervention. The average of triglyceride levels K (254.3±49.0 mg/dL) and P1 (241.7±58.5 mg/dL) at second week. The average of triglyceride levels K (175.3±67.7 mg/dL) and P1 (181.3±40.1 mg/dL) at fourth week. Both of second and fourth week the average of triglyceride levels K and P1 were cathegorize in hypertriglyceridemia. Chitosan intake on fed inhibited increasing body weight on P2 (0.045 g) amount 53.4 g or 23.3% during 2 weeks and 63.6 g or 27.8% during 4 weeks. Chitosan intake 0.045 g on P2 decreased triglyceride levels (128.3±14.3 mg/dL) significantly than K (p=0.009) at second week. Thus, there were an opotimum dose of chitosan influence body weight and trigliceride levels. |
