The increasing of used oil and gas energy will lead to depletion of fossil energy resources, therefore it’s important to develop of a renewable energy sources. Ocean currents energy is one of renewable energy source which can be develop to fulfil high energy demand problems. The economic of ocean currents development has not been known clearly in the aspect of price, feasiblilty, and policy. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the potential of ocean currents energy development as a power plant in Madura Strait and formulate ocean energy policy. Methods of analyses used in this study were oceanographic, technical, willingness to pay (WTP), benefit cost, input-output, institutional and policy analysis. Based on the research, Madura Strait has sufficient resource potential to produce energy. WTP analysis showed respondents afford to pay higher electricity tariffs than the base tariff of electricity amounting to IDR 486,38 kwh. Benefit cost analysis showed that ocean currents energy power plant development is financially feasible to be develop for above 3 turbins and also 3 MW power plant. The energy sector capable of driving economic growth in East Java Province based on input-output analysis. Electricity and gas sector has contributed 1,28 percent after investment injection of 3 MW power plant to East Java Province GDP 2012. Institutional role is very important in the development of ocean currents energy in region Suramadu. Strong institutions can control the execution of ocean currents energy development from a technical or policy drafted. Assessment policy analysis showed infrastructure of power plant as a policy priority in the development of ocean currents energy.en
